This guide explains how it all fits together. For one job at a time, the short articles in this topic have the exact steps.
Your public page on Agoo Reviews, the open review site where anyone can review a business, and how you claim it, reply, answer questions, add photos, flag and invite reviews under rules that are the same for everyone.
Agoo Reviews, at agoo.reviews, is an open public review site for businesses in Ghana and across Africa. Anyone with an account confirmed by phone or email can review any business, and anyone can add a business that isn't listed yet. It's being built, live as each part lands: this page describes how it's designed to work when it opens.
Your Page
- It opens after notice. If your organisation serves the public, it gets a page on Agoo Reviews, with each of your sites as a branch, named and placed as in your sites' settings. Your Owner and Admins get an email 14 days before it opens to reviews, and you'll see the date counting down in Console → Feedback → Public reviews. A new organisation is listed after its first week at the earliest. Places that don't use Agoo are told once, by email or a text in the day, and can ask never to be contacted again; their page stays.
- Or open it straight away. The 14 days' notice is there to protect you, so you don't have to wait for it. Your Owner or an Admin can choose Open our page now in Console → Feedback → Public reviews, whether or not your page has been listed yet: it goes live on agoo.reviews at once, with a branch for each of your sites, and people can start writing reviews. Once open, it stays open like every business's page. The rules of your kind of place still apply (a kind listed only if it opts in must opt in first), and a page waits while you've asked us something about the whole page. Who opened it is kept in your audit trail.
- Before it opens, check your branches, choose the category that fits best (among places of the same kind), and tell us if one of your sites is a secure site, someone's home or isn't open to the public: a moderator answers by email, and your page waits to open until they do. A page comes down only if the place isn't eligible, never because a business would rather not be reviewed.
- Some kinds of place are listed only if they opt in: estates, services whose name reveals a condition, and public counters at secure sites. Your Owner or an Admin opts in from the same page, and the page opens 14 days later. Opting out of an open page closes it to new reviews and takes it out of search for 12 months before it comes down.
- Who sees it: Owners, Admins, Site admins and Auditors see the page; Owners and Admins change it. See Roles and permissions.
- Every branch is listed free, on every plan.
- It's claimed already. Your organisation's page is yours through its Owner. A business that doesn't use Agoo can claim its own page free, by proving it runs the business (see Claim your page). Claiming changes nothing about the reviews.
- It stays open. No organisation can hide or delete its page, or start a new one to shed its reviews. If you leave Agoo, your page stays open and people can still review you; only Verified visit stops, and the page says since when. Whoever manages the page, and its contact address, is emailed to say so. A place of a kind listed only by choice (such as a clinic or a place of worship) becomes read-only for 12 months instead, and is then removed, with an email when it is.
Your Branches
A business with more than one place has a branch for each, and each branch has its own page, its own score and its own reviews.
- Where branches come from. Your Agoo sites, each listed by default (see below); Agoo's research from public sources such as your own branch list; branches you add or import yourself; and readers' suggestions, which a moderator checks against a public source before anything changes. The same checks and duplicate matching apply to every source, and nobody can pay to add, hide or move a branch.
- Your sites, site by site. Every site that serves the public is listed as a branch by default. In Console → Feedback → Public reviews → Sites on Agoo Reviews, and on each site in Settings → Sites, choose List or Don't list with why: not open to the public, a back office, a secure site or someone's home. When you add a site you're asked "Show this site on Agoo Reviews as a branch?", and you can set what happens to new sites (list them, don't list them, or ask each time). The 14-day notice names every site with the same choice. Don't list never hides a branch customers already review: a moderator decides, as for any business.
- Branches of places that get extra care (clinics, schools, places of worship) follow your page's rules, and a moderator checks each one against a public source, such as the facility register or the school lists. No new 14-day notice is needed for each branch once your page is open. Kinds listed only by opting in get branches only from you.
- Closed for now or for good. A branch can be closed for a while with a reopening date and a short note ("Closed for renovation"), or closed for good. Either way its reviews stay, and they keep counting in your score for their 24 months. A temporarily closed branch still takes reviews of earlier visits.
- Online, phone and app. Reviews of your app, mobile money, call centre or deliveries aren't about one branch. Banks, telcos, mobile money, insurers, couriers and similar businesses get an "Online, phone and app" choice first in the review form; others offer it last as "Not about one branch". It has its own score and counts in your business score like a branch, with no address or pin.
- The branch finder. Readers find a branch at
agoo.reviews/your-page/branches: a list and a map, search, filters by region and town, Near me (worked out on their phone after they tap it, never sent to anyone), Open now in Ghana's time with public holidays, and on each branch Call, Directions and Review this branch. Search results and category lists show your business once, with "4 branches in Kumasi", not a row per branch. - Best and worst branches. Once four of your branches show a score, your page shows the highest- and lowest-scored ones by the published rule. It's the same for every business and can't be switched off.
- In search engines, a branch page is listed once it has a review of its own; the finder is listed once you have three open branches.
Your Page's Profile
Every page has a profile above its reviews, so readers can recognise you and reach you:
- Your logo and a cover image. Once you've claimed your page, its owner and head-office managers put up their own under Your page › Logo and Cover, on the web or in the app, and they show straight away. Every picture is drawn again first, so nothing hidden in the file goes with it. Only a picture that clearly shows nudity or sexual content, graphic violence or a hateful symbol is turned away, with a note saying so; Agoo's moderators may look at others afterwards, and if one breaks the guidelines they take it off and email the owner and head office to say why. If your organisation has a square logo in Settings → Branding (or a wide one), your page shows it, whatever your plan, within 15 minutes of you setting or changing it, until you put up another here. Without one, your page shows your initials on a calm tile, and a cover woven from Agoo's Strip pattern for your kind of business. Logos and covers are free and never depend on a plan. See Add Your Logo and Cover.
- About you: a one-line tagline, a few sentences about what you do, the year you were founded, what you offer, the languages spoken, your social pages, your WhatsApp business number, your phone, email and website.
- Opening hours, for each day, with a different set for a branch that keeps its own hours (and its own phone). Readers see whether you're open now, in Ghana's time.
- When the facts were checked. Until claiming opens, Agoo keeps your profile from public sources (your own website, a register, your signboard) and says so: "Edited by Agoo", with the date. Once you can claim and manage it yourself, it says "Updated by the business".
See how your page looks in Console → Feedback → Public reviews. If something is wrong, tell Agoo from the same page. A profile never changes your score or your place in search.
Photos of Your Place
Once you've claimed your page, add photos of it from Photos in your business area at agoo.reviews/business. They're free for every business, on every level.
- Up to 30 photos, counting those waiting to be checked. Give each a caption and a description for people who can't see it, and choose the branch it shows or the whole business. Put them in the order you like.
- What they show: the place itself, its products or its services. No people who haven't agreed to be shown, no other businesses' photos or anything you don't have the right to use, no adverts that are mostly text, and no contact details or prices on the image.
- The files: JPEG, PNG or WebP, at least 640 px on the long side, up to 8 MB. Agoo makes its own copy of each and takes out the location and camera details a photo carries.
- A person checks each one first. A new photo waits until a person at Agoo approves it, usually within 2 working days. If one isn't approved, your business area says why, and you can add another.
- Who adds them: the page's owner and managers at head office. Responders and branch managers see them.
- From the business or From Agoo. Agoo can add photos too, marked From Agoo. You can delete your own; if one of Agoo's is wrong, report it from the page.
- On a branch's page, that branch's photos come first, then the whole business's.
Photos never change your score, the order of search or a Top rated list, and you can't pay for more of them. Anyone can report a photo, and a moderator decides.
Questions and Answers
Readers can ask a question on your page before they visit ("Is there parking?", "Do you open on Sundays?"), and you, or anyone with an account who knows, can answer.
- Asking: signed in, up to 300 characters, about the place, or one branch of it. Whoever asked is told when someone answers.
- Answering as the business: from Questions in your business area, where the questions still waiting for your answer come first; the tab shows how many. Anyone on your page's team can answer, and branch managers answer for their own branches. You give one answer to each question, up to 1,000 characters, and you can change it or take it down. It shows under your business's name, marked From the business. People who manage your page answer only as the business, never as a customer.
- Your alerts: if you get alerts, you're emailed when someone asks your business a question (branch managers, for their branches).
- Checked as they're sent, by the same rules as your replies: no contact details or links, no accusation of a crime, no threats. Most appear at once; one that the checks question waits for a person at Agoo first, usually within 2 working days.
- Helpful: readers mark the answers that helped them, one vote each, and the most helpful come first, with yours first on a tie. Your team can't vote.
- When there are none: places that get extra care (clinics, schools, places of worship and the other kinds in the table below) have no questions and answers, and they're closed while your page isn't taking new reviews.
- Report any question or answer that breaks the guidelines; a moderator decides. You can't remove someone else's question or answer yourself.
Questions, answers and votes never change your score, the order of search or a Top rated list.
Places That Get Extra Care
Some places need stricter rules to protect the people who use them. The score and the order in search work the same for them; only what may be written, and how it's checked, differs. Reviews of these places never show on the reviewer's public profile.
| Kind of place | How it's listed | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, dental and eye clinics, maternity homes | A moderator confirms the facility against a public source, and reviews open 14 days after it's told | Staff are described by role, never by name, except the head by title. Claims of negligence go to a person first. Replies may never confirm someone was a patient |
| Services whose name reveals a condition (mental health, addiction, HIV and sexual health, fertility) | Only if the service asks to be listed | A person reads every review before it appears, and reviewers show by initials |
| Schools for children, from crèche to senior high | A moderator confirms the school, and reviews open 14 days after it's told | Adults only. A person reads every review first. No child is named or described, and no member of staff except the head by title |
| Churches, mosques and other places of worship | A moderator confirms it meets in public, and reviews open 14 days after it's told | Reviews are about the place (the welcome, events, facilities, parking), never the faith. A person reads every review first. No member of the congregation is named |
| Estates | Never added by the public. An estate on Agoo can ask for a page about its management and gate service | A person reads every review first. No resident, house number or gate routine is ever shown. Developers and management companies are listed as businesses |
| Security sites | Never added by the public, and never listed automatically | No review on any page may describe how a place is guarded |
| Private homes | Never | A business run from home shows its town, not its street |
Who Can Review
- Anyone with an Agoo Reviews account, confirmed by phone or email. Accounts are for adults.
- Reviewers show as a first name and initial, such as Kofi M., or a display name they choose. Agoo knows the confirmed account behind every review. You never see a reviewer's phone number or email.
- Staff and owners can't review their own organisation, and nobody may be rewarded for a review. Anyone who belongs to your organisation on Agoo, or has claimed your page, is turned away when they try.
- One review per person per branch. They can change it at any time; a new review of the same branch, about a new visit, replaces the old one after 6 months (12 months at a school). Deleting a review doesn't shorten the wait, so it can't be deleted and written again to look new.
Writing a Review
-
What it's about first. On a page that lists its products and services, the review starts with What's Your Review About?: one of your items, in your own groups, or the business in general. The branch is asked only when it matters: something used from anywhere (data, an app, a subscription) goes to Online, phone and app, an item offered at one branch goes there, and a business with one place is chosen for the reader; otherwise the reader picks among the branches that offer it. The item shows with the review; the stars count for the whole business as always.
-
Stars, a title, the words and the month of the visit, from the last two years. At a school the reviewer also says how they know it (parent or guardian, former pupil, visitor), which only the moderator sees. Before their first review they agree to the guidelines and terms for reviewers, and each time they confirm it's their own experience, with no link to the business and no reward.
-
Checked before it's sent, and again when it arrives, the same way for every business and every number of stars. Phone numbers, email addresses and links have to come out first. An accusation of a crime, a threat, harm to anyone, how a place is guarded, a name the rules for that kind of place don't allow, a serious concern about care, a child or a judgement of a faith is read by a person before it appears, usually within 2 working days, and so is every review of a school, a place of worship or an estate. At a clinic or hospital, a review that seems to mention health details waits for the reviewer to confirm they're their own.
-
Everything else is read by AI first, usually in a few seconds, then appears. The AI checks the words against the guidelines and nothing else: it isn't shown the stars or who wrote the review, and it can only pass a review on or hold it for a person. If it isn't sure, or can't be reached, a person reads the review first. Agoo's moderators make every decision to remove a review, with a reason from the guidelines, and never change its words. The reviewer sees what happened to each review in their account, with the reason in words, and is emailed when a person decides.
-
Changing and deleting are the reviewer's. A changed review shows as edited, keeps its first date (so an edit can't make it count as new in the score) and is checked again. Agoo keeps the earlier words privately in case a question about the review comes up. A deleted review goes at once, with your reply.
-
You can't touch any of it. Nothing your organisation does, and nothing it pays, writes, changes, hides, holds or speeds up a review.
-
On WhatsApp too. On every level, a customer can write their review in a WhatsApp chat with Agoo's number: from your poster's Or review on WhatsApp, a reply to a WhatsApp invitation, or REVIEW and your code. The chat asks the same things and the review goes through the same checks, labels and moderation. Their WhatsApp number is their account. See Write a Review on WhatsApp.
Reviewer Accounts
- A code, never a password. People sign up and sign in with a one-time code sent by text to a mobile number or to an email address. It's the same step whether they're new or not. The text and the email say they're from Agoo Reviews, and Agoo Reviews never asks anyone for their code.
- Separate from Agoo at work. Someone on your team can review places with the same email address they use for Agoo. Their Agoo Reviews account opens nothing of your organisation, and you never see whether they review or where they're signed in to Agoo Reviews.
- Private profiles. A reviewer can keep their profile private: their reviews still show on each place's page under their name, but their profile lists none of them.
- Deleting is theirs. A reviewer can delete their account at any time, and their reviews go with it, unless a legal notice about one of them is still open. They can also download everything Agoo Reviews keeps about them, including their reports, appeals and claims.
- One Agoo account. In Ways to sign in a reviewer adds or changes their email address or mobile number (each change confirmed by a code to a way in they already have), and chooses which Agoo products to sign out of everywhere. Lost their phone or email? Recover proves another way in, then waits 24 hours, telling every way in, before the lost one goes.
The Label On Every Review
Every review says how it was checked. A label says what was proven, never that a review is true.
| Label | How it's earned |
|---|---|
| Verified visit | Agoo's own records show a check-in or booking at that place. The strongest label |
| Invited by the business | The business sent its review link to all its customers, with no choosing |
| Phone confirmed | The reviewer's account has a confirmed phone number |
| Email confirmed | The reviewer's account has only a confirmed email |
When a review came from an invitation sent after a payment your payment system reported, it also shows Paid visit: see Connect a Payment Source. After a question about a review, Agoo may also add Proof seen by Agoo, when it has seen a receipt or similar. Labels never change the score: readers can narrow a page to one label, such as Verified visits only, and the score stays the same.
Naming Staff
Reviews may name a member of staff by first name and role ("Ama at the front desk"). A review that gives a junior member of staff's full name, accuses someone of a crime or shares someone's personal details is held for a moderator first. Anyone named in a review can ask for it to be changed or removed. On health pages, staff are described by role only.
Invite Reviews
- Verified visit invitations. Turn them on and Agoo invites everyone whose visit checks out, or whose booking ends, a few hours later, in your organisation's name. A review through one is labelled Verified visit. They're off until you turn them on.
- Customers who don't check in. Invite them by typing them in, from a customer list, through your forwarding address or with single-use links after a sale: 50 email invitations a month on Basic, and more with the paid review tools, with SMS from Reviews Plus and WhatsApp from prepaid WhatsApp bundles on Reviews Business. A review through one is labelled Invited.
- No review gating. You invite everyone or no one, whatever they told you privately, and you never learn which invitation became which review.
- The review poster for each branch opens its write page; anyone can scan it, so it gives no label of its own.
How to set each one up, who is left out and how people stop them: Review invitations and tools.
What You Can Do
All of these are free, on every plan:
- Reply under any published review in Feedback → Public reviews, or from your phone in the Agoo Workspace app, as your organisation: one public reply per review, which you can change. It's checked by the same rules as reviews (no contact details, and nothing that confirms someone was a patient or a pupil), and at places that need extra care it may wait for a moderator before it appears. The reviewer is told, and can update their review.
- Flag a review for a moderator, in the Console or the app, with the reason and what they should look at: not a real experience, a conflict of interest, a reward offered, extortion, personal data, naming you, hate, threats, security details, a child's safety, advertising, the wrong place or something else unlawful. A flag never hides a review. Everyone's flags go to one queue, oldest first; Agoo's moderators decide, with reasons for both sides and a right of appeal. One flag per review is open at a time.
- Send a legal notice about a review you believe is defamatory or breaks someone's privacy.
- Share your page, print the review poster, and add the rating badge to your website.
- Keep your profile up to date once you've claimed your page: your logo, cover, description, hours and contacts. Until then, Agoo keeps it from public sources.
- Add photos of your place, up to 30, each checked by a person before it shows (Photos of your place).
- Answer questions readers ask on your page, as your business (Questions and answers).
- Message a reviewer, where they allowed it on their review: in Feedback → Public reviews, Message the reviewer under the review (Owners, Admins and site admins). Agoo passes your message to their notifications and email; you never see who they are or how to reach them, and they can stop your messages or report one. Thank them, put things right or invite them to get in touch: 20 to 1,500 characters, no links (give your business's own number if you'd like them to call), at most three about one review and 20 a day from your page, counting only your own messages. Without an answer the next waits a week; once the reviewer answers, you can write back straight away. Each message is in your audit trail.
What You Can't Do
You can't edit, hide, reorder, pin or remove reviews, remove someone else's question or answer, close your page, or pay to change any of it. You see that a review is a Verified visit, the site and the month, but not which visit, unless the reviewer chooses to let you contact them. This protects people who leave honest reviews.
Money never changes a score, the order of reviews, a place in search, a Top rated list, what's featured or how fast a flag is handled, and nothing on the public page is sold. Your page looks the same and is ranked the same whatever you pay.
Claim Your Page
A business that doesn't use Agoo claims its page free at agoo.reviews (or from the page in the Agoo Reviews app, which opens it there): open the page, choose Claim this page, free, sign in (with a code by text or email, or with Google, Microsoft or Apple), and prove it's yours in one of six ways. A person at Agoo checks every claim before the page is yours, usually within 2 working days, whichever way you prove it.
| How you prove it | Verified business |
|---|---|
| You're the Owner of the Agoo organisation behind it | No |
| A code to your email at your website's own domain | Yes |
| A code by text to the phone on the page | No |
| A registration document a moderator checks, with its ORC number | Yes (a registration) |
| A code by text to a mobile number written on your business's own website | No |
| Your MoMo merchant name, which a person at Agoo checks | No |
-
The last two are for a business with no email at its own domain. For the website's number, Agoo looks at a few of the site's own pages (its home, contact and about pages, never another site) and texts a code only to a number it finds there. Approved, the number or the merchant name shows on your page as a verified official contact.
-
While you wait, the claim page shows what happens next. Gather your recent customers' email addresses or mobile numbers: your poster, invitations and the Get Your Page Ready checklist are in the business area the moment the page is yours.
-
Free email addresses (Gmail and the like) and pages on a shared site can't prove a domain, and a code never goes to a phone number you added to the page yourself.
-
If someone else claims the page too, or it's claimed already, a moderator decides. Every decision is recorded, and a refused claim can be appealed within 30 days.
-
Verified business shows on your page, and as Verified on your cards in search, Featured, Top rated and the other lists (reviewers' saved and followed places too), when you proved it with your domain or a registration document, or when Agoo already knows who owns the business and verified it itself (the page then says "Verified by Agoo"). Claimed and Verified change nothing about the reviews or the score.
-
Your document is kept privately, seen only by Agoo's moderators, and deleted 30 days after we decide.
List Your Business
If your business isn't on Agoo Reviews yet, list it yourself, free, at agoo.reviews/business/new, or from the Agoo Reviews app (List your business in the Business tab, and under You → About Agoo Reviews), which opens the same page:
- Your business's details. Its name, what it does, where it is and how customers reach it. Agoo looks for it first: if it's already there, claim that page instead.
- Set up its page. Your business area opens straight away, privately: add its logo and cover, a few lines about it, opening hours, photos and branches. Nobody sees it yet.
- Show it's yours. A code to an email at your website's own domain, or a registration certificate with its ORC number (a utility bill in the business's name also helps): either earns Verified business. A code to a mobile number on your own website, or your MoMo merchant name checked by a person, also proves it.
- Submit it. A person at Agoo checks it, usually within 2 working days. We email you when your page opens, or if we'd like you to change something first; change it and submit it again. If we can't list it, we tell you why.
While it waits, the business area shows While You Wait: the steps and the date we aim to decide by, with your QR poster ready to print and your invitations ready to go. Invitations you add are kept under Ready for When Your Page Opens and sent the moment we approve the page, with the usual checks and against that month; if we decline it, or you withdraw it, they're deleted unsent. The page shows Not public yet in the app's Business tab with where it stands: being set up, checking, or what we'd like you to change, in our own words. Proof and submitting are on agoo.reviews (the app's Continue on agoo.reviews opens it). You can withdraw it any time before we decide. Clinics, schools and places of worship are matched to a public source, such as a register, before they open. Listing is free, for ever, and never changes how a page is scored.
Your Business Area
Once claimed, the page is managed at agoo.reviews/business, free on every level:
- Overview: your score and its trend over 12 months, reviews, reply rate, how reviews came in, and what's waiting for a reply. Someone who looks after some branches sees those branches named at the top, with their posters, and the figures are theirs.
- Get Your Page Ready: on the overview, for the owner and head-office managers, a checklist with a progress ring: what you offer confirmed (first), your logo, a cover photo, opening hours, a few lines about the business with a way to reach it, the QR poster printed, your first 10 customers asked, your first reply and an official number verified. Each is ticked from the page itself. A page on its own also gets four short welcome emails in its first two weeks (on the day, then after 3, 7 and 14 days), each with one step still to do and a one-click stop; an owner with only a mobile number gets texts. Nothing on it changes your score.
- Questions: the questions readers ask on your page, those waiting for your answer first, and your answers in every state.
- Photos: add, caption, order and delete your photos, and see whether each is waiting, published or not approved (with why, for 90 days).
- Reviews and replies: reply to each review, change or delete your reply. Replies appear at once, except at places that get extra care and when our checks question one: then a moderator reads it first. The reviewer is emailed when you first reply. You can flag a review for a moderator.
- Your page: your website, phone and business email, and (where available) your tagline, about, opening hours, WhatsApp, social pages, what you offer and the languages you speak. Every change is logged and your page says Updated by the business. To change the name, ask a moderator: the old name stays on the page as a former name.
- Branches: every branch with its status, score and reviews; add one, change its facts, hours and phone, close it for now with a reopening date or for good, import your list from a spreadsheet with a row-by-row preview (and undo it within 7 days), and report a duplicate.
- Team and alerts: an owner, managers (replies, answers, photos, facts and the team) and responders (replies and answers), with Every role, side by side to compare them on one screen. Invite by email, or by phone with a text on every level, accepted by signing in with that number. Basic has 2 people, Reviews Plus 5 and Reviews Business 25. Each person chooses whether they get an email for new reviews and new questions. The owner can hand the page over, or release it.
- Branch managers: on the branches your level covers (1 with Reviews Plus, 10 with Reviews Business, more with Advanced reviews), up to 3 people per branch, who don't count towards your team. They see, reply to and hear about their own branches' reviews, and change their branches' hours, phone and temporary closures; head office keeps everything else.
- Insights → Branches: with Reviews Business (and Agoo Growth and up), the branch league table: each branch's score, reviews in the last 90 days, change, reply rate, reply time and share of Verified visits, each ranked, with a monthly email to head office and an export. Branch managers see their own branches and where they stand; head office decides whether they see the others' names. It's yours alone and never changes a score or the order readers see.
- QR, link and widgets: your review link, a QR poster to print (one for the business, one for each branch that opens the form with the branch chosen, or every branch one per page, with each branch's scans), and a rating badge for your website that links back to your page; with Reviews Plus and Business, a latest-reviews strip, a carousel and a review form for your website.
- Insights: your score, reviews and reply rate on every level; with Reviews Plus, what your reviews are about (each topic counted by Agoo from the reviews themselves, with the sentence that shows it), twelve months of trends and AI summaries.
- Invitations: invite customers by email (50 a month on Basic, 1,000 with Reviews Plus, 5,000 with Reviews Business), and from Reviews Plus by text, from a list or with single-use links for receipts.
- Developers: with Reviews Business, API keys and webhooks for your own systems; a test key on every level.
- Levels: choose Reviews Plus or Reviews Business, monthly or yearly, and pay on agoo.reviews.
- Export: your reviews and replies as CSV; Excel and PDF with Reviews Plus and Business.
Nobody on your team can review your business. An Agoo organisation keeps managing its page in Console → Feedback → Public reviews; its Owner can also claim it here to use the business area.
Report, Legal Notices and Appeals
- Report is under every review, reply, photo, question and answer, and Report this page is on every page (wrong facts, closed, a duplicate, not a real place). Anyone can report; a moderator decides within 5 working days, or 1 working day for a threat, a child's safety or extortion. Reports never remove anything by themselves.
- Extortion (someone wants payment to post or remove a review): report it from the page and never pay.
- A legal notice (defamation, privacy, other unlawful content or a court order) uses its own form at agoo.reviews/report/legal. We acknowledge it at once, forward it to the person who wrote it within 48 hours, give them 5 days to answer, then a moderator decides and tells both sides. While it's open, what it's about can't be deleted.
- Appeals: a reviewer whose review was removed or whose account had a decision made about it, or a business whose claim was refused, can ask us to look again within 30 days. A different moderator decides, within 5 working days.
Warnings and Transparency
- Consumer warnings. When a business games its reviews (reviews from people connected to it, rewards, asking only happy customers) or threatens reviewers, a warning shows on its page, usually for six months, and stays as history when it ends. A warning never changes the score.
- Checks for unusual activity. Every review is checked for signs it isn't genuine, such as many accounts acting together, the same words on different pages, a reviewer connected to the business or a rival, or far more reviews than usual in a short time. A check never removes a review: it holds it for a person to read, or asks a person to look. We don't publish where the checks draw their lines.
- A pause on new reviews. When far more reviews than usual arrive at once, new reviews of that page pause for a short while, usually a few days at most, with a note on the page, while we check them. It happens to every business alike, whether the reviews are kind or harsh. The reviews already there and your score don't change, and whoever manages your page is emailed when it starts and when it ends (and your Owner and Admins get a notification in the Agoo Workspace app). If you asked customers for reviews recently, reply to that email and tell us how: it helps us finish sooner.
- Reviewers who break the rules. A person decides, never the checks alone: a warning, then writing paused for a while, then, after earlier warnings or for something serious, the account closed. Each names the guideline broken and the version of the guidelines it applied, and the reviewer can appeal. Businesses are never told who was sanctioned.
- How this page works. Every page shows who's behind it and how its reviews came in: claimed since, Verified business, updated by the business, former names, how many reviews in 12 months were unprompted or came from an invitation sent to every customer, whether replies may be AI-assisted, how often the business replies to negative reviews, how many of its photos are from the business and how many from Agoo, and how quickly it usually replies ("Usually replies within 2 days"), once it has replied to 5 reviews or more in the last 12 months.
- Businesses connected with Nkonso. Agoo Reviews is run by Nkonso Technologies, and lists the businesses that belong to or are connected with Nkonso like any others. Each of their pages says so, and their reviews follow exactly the same rules.
- Trust and safety at agoo.reviews/trust sets out the targets we hold ourselves to and 12 months of figures from our moderation record.
- The transparency report at agoo.reviews/transparency gives each year's figures: reviews received, published, held and removed by reason, invited and unprompted reviews, reports, legal notices and court orders, requests from authorities, appeals, warnings and claims, unusual activity (how often the checks asked a person to look, reviews they held, pages paused), reviewers warned or restricted, businesses added by readers, how fast we actually decided, and the same figures for businesses that pay Agoo and those that don't. This year's figures are live; a finished year is final.
When Agoo Takes a Page Offline
Agoo can take a page offline for a while when something about it needs looking into, such as:
- its facts are disputed, such as its name, its address or who runs it;
- a legal notice about the page;
- a safety concern;
- signs of fake reviews, for or against the business;
- someone may be posing as the business;
- checking that the place can be listed, for example that it's open to the public;
- the page may be a duplicate of another;
- someone's personal details to remove from the page.
While it's offline:
- Readers see "This page is temporarily unavailable", for the page and each branch, and it's out of search and the categories. Nobody can write a review or change one.
- Nothing is deleted. Its reviews, your replies and the score stay exactly as they were, and when the page comes back it's just as it was before.
- Whoever manages the page is told why by email, with when it will be back if we know: for your organisation, your Owner and Admins. Reply to the email to tell us more or ask a question. Console → Feedback → Public reviews shows the page as offline for now.
- It's never about money. No page is taken offline, or kept online, because of what a business pays or doesn't, or because it would rather not be reviewed.
Businesses Added by Readers
Anyone signed in to Agoo Reviews can add a business that isn't listed yet, at agoo.reviews/add. We look for it first (the same website, phone or name, or a similar name in the same town), so the same place isn't listed twice. An ordinary business opens at once and a moderator checks it within 5 working days; one added despite a possible duplicate waits for a moderator. Clinics, schools and places of worship wait until a moderator matches them to a public source, then follow their own listing rules. Services whose name reveals a condition, estates and security sites are only noted, so Agoo can invite them; private homes are never listed. The business isn't told who added it, and if it's yours you can claim it free like any other page.
Groups, Brands and Notes
- Part of a group. Agoo's moderators can show that a page belongs to a group (MTN MoMo is part of MTN Ghana; a radio station is part of its media group). The page says Part of the group, and the group's page lists its Brands and Services. Each keeps its own score: nothing is added up or shared. To ask for a link, write to Agoo from your business area.
- A note about a page's standing. When a public body acts on a business (a licence revoked, a building closed for renovation), Agoo's moderators can put a short note above its reviews with the date and a public source. It closes nothing: reviews stay open and the score is unchanged.
- Pages with only the basics. Many pages Agoo listed from open data (OpenStreetMap, with its credit beside the map) have only a name, a category and a pin. They show the category's own tile until a logo is added, the pin with directions, the places nearby, and a plain Is This Your Business? with Claim This Page and Add Details and Suggest an Edit.
Closed Businesses and Duplicates
- A business that closes for good keeps its page, marked as closed, with its reviews, for the record. It's out of search and takes no new reviews. If the business reopens, so does its page.
- Two pages for the same place are merged, never deleted. The reviews and replies move to the page that's kept, its score is worked out again in the usual way, and the old page's address leads to it.
What We Offer and Enquiries
Show your products, services and programmes with their prices, photos, branches and buttons to buy, order, book or ask. Readers who are signed in can send an enquiry about an item or your business; it lands in Enquiries, everyone on your team hears of it, and they hear your answer. For many well-known businesses Agoo has already listed what they offer from their own websites, marked Suggested by Agoo from your website until you keep, change or hide each, or Keep All (it's the first step of Get Your Page Ready, Confirm what you offer); your changes always win, and Agoo never changes an item you've touched. Reviewers say what their review is about first (an item, or a review area such as mobile data for a telecoms company), and each item shows the stars of the reviews that name it once three do ("from N reviews that name it"); your page's score is worked out as always. An item is found in a town only where a branch there offers it, and deleting one keeps the reviews that named it. Your level sets how many items and photos you show and adds tools: saved replies, handing enquiries on, export and item insights on Reviews Plus, a spreadsheet import and the API on Reviews Business. See List What You Offer and Answer Enquiries.
Practical Facts, Holiday Hours and Buttons
Readers decide whether to come by things a review rarely says: how to pay, whether there are steps, whether you're open on a holiday. Under Your page, set each practical fact to yes or no. Readers see it with the date you confirmed it, and customers who reviewed you can confirm or dispute it; a fact most of them dispute shows as disputed. Set a day as closed or with special hours, for the whole business or one branch, and Open now and Compare follow it. A reader asking search for several facts finds you only where one branch has them all. Add Book, Order, Enquire, Menu and prices or Register buttons that take readers straight there; your Agoo booking page or form is named as such. All of it is free and never changes your score or your place in search. See Set Practical Facts, Holiday Hours and Buttons.
Photos and Proof on Reviews and Replies
Reviewers can add up to 4 photos and 2 proofs to a review; you can add 2 of each to your reply. Every picture that shows is checked first, at the size readers open it, and until then only its owner and their team can see it. Proof is either kept for Agoo, which goes straight to a moderator and is never checked by AI (the review then shows Proof seen by Agoo), or shown with private details covered, as its owner's own proof, never as something Agoo vouches for. When you dispute a review, a refund slip or booking under your reply lets readers weigh both sides.
Cases: Putting Things Right
A reply says you heard. A case shows you acted. Take any review on as a case, give it to someone on your team with a due date, and keep notes only your team sees; a review of 1 or 2 stars opens one by itself, and so do a review changed to 1 or 2 stars and a review about something serious, such as safety, whatever its stars. Organisations on Agoo work theirs in Console → Feedback → Public reviews → Cases. If the reviewer allowed you to write to them, they can answer you privately, and when you mark action taken they're asked whether it's sorted out. Only they can say so, and only they choose whether readers see it under their review; their few words there are checked first, as reviews are. See Work a Case from a Review.
Sorts Things Out
Beside your score, your page and each branch's show Sorts Things Out: of the customers whose problem became a case and who said how it ended, how many said it was sorted out, over the last 24 months. Only customers' own answers count, never a case you closed, and "didn't want to take it further" counts neither way. It shows from 5 answers, always as a count ("7 of 9"), and as a percentage only from 20. Each answer stays private unless its reviewer chose to show it. It's free on every level and never part of your score. See What Sorts Things Out Means.
Official Numbers and MoMo Names
Scammers copy businesses' names. Show your real ones as verified: your official phone and WhatsApp numbers, proved by a code texted to each, and your MoMo merchant names, checked by Agoo's team. They show on your page and branch pages as Verified, and anyone can check a number or merchant name at agoo.reviews/check before they pay. A number that isn't verified is shown only as "not verified", never as a scam. Free on every level, for claimed pages. See Verify Your Official Numbers and MoMo Names and Check If a Number Is Real.
The Most Trusted List
Once a year Agoo Reviews publishes its Most Trusted list at agoo.reviews/most-trusted: by category, nationwide and for each region, up to 10 businesses a list, from the public score at the edition's cut-off date and then the reviews it counts. The rules are the same for every business and are kept with each edition: a score shown, at least 20 reviews published in the 12 months before the cut-off, and no consumer warning or pause for unusual activity in those months. Nothing you pay for counts, and Agoo's team can only take a business out for a reason from a fixed list (a court order, a closure, a fraud investigation, a duplicate page), never to put one in. Nothing shows until an edition is published, and a published edition never changes. If your page is on a list, it shows Most Trusted with a link to the list, and your business area gains Most Trusted, with your badge and certificate to download, free. See Find the Most Trusted Places and Download Your Most Trusted Badge and Certificate.
Why Your Score Moved
Under your score, readers and you can open why to see the last 90 days: the score then and now, what new reviews did, and what time did (older reviews count for a little less each year). Agoo keeps each page's score once a day: where it has the score from 90 days ago, it reads In the last 90 days and what older reviews' edits and removals did since is its own line. Until then it reads On today's reviews, worked out from the reviews published now, and says so. Reviews are never named.
Your Score
The score uses a published formula, the same for every business. Every place starts as if it already had 5 reviews of 3.5 stars, so one review can't make it perfect; a review's weight halves every 12 months; reviews older than 24 months stay on the page but no longer count; and a score shows from 3 reviews. Each branch has a score, and your business score is all your branches' reviews pooled by the same formula, so a busy branch counts for more than a quiet one. Reviews of a branch closed for now or for good keep counting for their 24 months; a branch that should never have been listed doesn't count. Beside it, your page shows how many reviews it's made from, the spread of stars, the share with each label, how often you reply and, once you've replied to 5 reviews or more in 12 months, how quickly. Labels, replies and how fast they come, photos, questions and answers, private survey answers and anything you pay never count towards it. The page How scores work on Agoo Reviews sets it out with a worked example.
What Readers See
Anyone can read Agoo Reviews without an account:
- Search by name, branch, category and town, in the order the reader chooses: best match (the closest name, then the most reviewed), most reviewed, highest score, newest reviews or name. Names are found the way people type them: in any case, without accents, without an apostrophe, with "and" for "&", words in any order across a business's name, its branch, its town and its category ("GCB Kumasi", "hotel Accra"), and with a letter wrong ("Labadi Beech"), the closest names first. Suggestions appear as they type: businesses with their branches counted, single branches, categories and towns. Readers can keep to places that have reviews. There are no sponsored places, and paying never changes the order.
- The home page: search, every category, Featured by Agoo Reviews, Top rated, the places reviewed most recently, the newest pages and towns. A section with nothing real to show isn't shown.
- Top rated lists on the home page, each category and each town: the highest scores among places whose score shows (3 reviews or more in the last 24 months), highest first, then the most reviews counted. A list appears once three places qualify. The rule is the same for every business and is published on How scores work.
- Categories written for Ghana, from chop bars and banks to clinics, schools and places of worship, with each category's featured places, its Top rated list, its newest pages and its towns.
- Your page, with your logo, cover, photos, profile and opening hours, questions and answers, your branches and their own scores, and a page for each branch. Readers order your reviews themselves (newest, oldest, highest or lowest) and can show only one number of stars or one label. Your replies show under the reviews they answer.
- Search within your reviews and filters: words in the reviews, stars, a label (such as Verified visits only), a topic, a branch, the dates, with or without a reply, and the language; and the orders newest (the default), oldest, highest, lowest and most helpful.
- An AI summary of what reviewers say, once your page has enough recent reviews: a few lines, each linked to the reviews behind it, and the topics people mention most, each a filter. It's made from your published reviews alone, the same way for every business, and it's free: you can't pay for it, edit it or add to it. It must say what your 1 and 2-star reviews say as plainly as the rest. Places that need care, and pages under a warning, don't get one.
- Useful votes on each review (one per reader, never part of the score), aspect stars reviewers may add for parts of a visit, such as service or waiting time (each aspect's average shows from three ratings, never part of the score), a page for each review to share, and a Translate link on reviews not in English.
- Save, lists and follow: readers can save your page, add it to their own lists (up to 50 lists of 200 places, private or shared by link, never shown to search engines) and follow it to hear about new reviews and your replies. You never learn who saves, lists or follows you.
- Reviewers' emails are theirs to choose, in one place on agoo.reviews (Emails from Agoo Reviews): places they follow (each, daily, weekly or none), replies to their reviews and answers to their questions, and messages from businesses (at once or none), and an optional weekly roundup. So a reply or a message you send may reach them by email at once, or only in their notifications. Every email has a link that stops it.
- Reviewer profiles: the reviewer's name, the month they joined and how many reviews they've written, with the reviews, the spread of their stars and how many kinds of place they've reviewed unless their profile is private. Reviews of places that get extra care never appear there.
- The guidelines: what reviewers may write, who may be named, the extra rules for places that need care, why a review may be held or removed, and what businesses may and may not do.
- Towns and regions: a page for each town and region, and for each kind of place in a town (such as hotels in Kumasi), listing the places there in the most-reviewed order with their newest reviews.
- Guides: how to spot a fake review, how to complain effectively in Ghana and which regulator to go to, and how Agoo checks reviews.
Featured by Agoo Reviews
Agoo's editors feature a few businesses on the home page, a category or a town, for a set time, to help readers find good places. Each block is labelled Featured by Agoo Reviews, and readers can open what that means.
- It's never sold. No business can pay for it or ask for it, and no Agoo plan includes it.
- It changes nothing else. Being featured never moves a score, the order of search or a Top rated list: the part of Agoo that works those out can't see what's featured.
- Nkonso's connections are disclosed. Agoo Reviews is run by Nkonso Technologies. Businesses connected with Nkonso are listed and may be featured, and their pages say so plainly. They're scored and moderated like everyone else.
Your Page In Search Engines
Your page is open to Google, Bing and the other search engines once it has a published review, or before that if your profile has a few sentences about your business. Once your page shows a score, search engines may show it and your review count beside your page in their results; those stars come only from reviews published on Agoo Reviews, never from anywhere else. A page that's closed to new reviews is kept out of search. Paying Agoo never changes how your page appears in search.
Showing and Quoting Your Reviews
You may show your own reviews, stars and score in your own marketing, free on every level, with a link back to your page: with the badge, the widgets, review images, or quoted word for word. Anyone may quote a review or a score briefly with credit to Agoo Reviews and a link. Copying listings or reviews in bulk, re-hosting them or building a rival database from them isn't allowed. The full rules are Content and the Database in the guidelines, and Using Our Name and Mark on agoo.reviews/trust says how to use the Agoo Reviews name and mark.
Review Tools by Plan
Every Agoo plan includes a level of review tools. What you pay for is reach and tools away from the page, never the page itself.
| Your Agoo plan | Review tools | Branches with your plan's paid tools |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Basic | None needed: Basic covers every branch |
| Starter | Plus | 1 |
| Growth | Business | 3 |
| Pro | Business | 10 |
| Enterprise | Business | No limit |
- Basic (free, for every business): claim the page, correct its facts, manage and import its branches, reply, answer questions, add up to 30 photos, flag, send legal notices, email alerts, the QR poster for every branch, the rating badge, a performance overview with a weekly email, 50 email invitations a month and a CSV export.
- Plus adds 1,000 email invitations a month, SMS, a reminder, customer lists, a forwarding address and after-sale links, website widgets, shareable review images, insights with a monthly report, and AI reply drafts. A page on its own can try it free for 14 days.
- Business adds 5,000 email invitations a month, WhatsApp invitations and alerts, invitations after payments with Paid visit, the branch league table, comparing branches with your category's benchmark, and the reviews API with your catalogue and its webhooks.
- Reviews Enterprise, for a business on Agoo Reviews on its own, adds no limit on branches, sign-in through Agoo ID, your own roles, the competitor watch, a named contact and agreed reply times, on request.
- Branch managers come with Plus and Business, on the branches the level covers (the table above, plus Advanced reviews), up to 3 a branch, outside your team's limit. Basic keeps the page with head office.
What each tool does and how to use it: Review invitations and tools.
To give more branches your plan's tools, add Advanced reviews · 10 places (GH₵99 a month) or Advanced reviews · 50 places (GH₵399 a month), from Starter. On Free, you can add Reviews Plus (GH₵199 a month) without moving plan, and then Advanced reviews too. A business that doesn't use Agoo can buy Reviews Plus or Reviews Business on their own, on agoo.reviews: their prices are on agoo.reviews/pricing. Prices exclude VAT. Agoo plans' levels and limits are on Agoo's pricing page.
On Your Phone
If your organisation uses Agoo, your page is in the Agoo Workspace app too, on iPhone, iPad and Android, under Manage → Reviews, for whoever can see it in the Console (Owners, Admins, site admins and auditors):
- Your page at a glance: the score with how many reviews it's made from, the spread of stars, how many came in the last 30 days, and a note when new reviews are paused.
- The latest reviews, newest first: All, those Waiting for a reply, and the Low ones (one or two stars). Each says where it stands: waiting for a reply, replied, your reply being checked by a moderator, or your reply removed, and whether you've flagged it.
- Reply or Change your reply, and Flag for a moderator, under the same rules as the Console: 3,000 characters for a reply, the same guidelines under the box, the same published reasons for a flag. A site admin answers reviews at their own sites' branches. A short notice on the phone says each one went.
- Notifications: A new review on your page (to Owners, Admins and the site admins of its branch) and New reviews paused on your page (to Owners and Admins, when a pause starts and when it ends). Tap one to open the review, or your page. They come only to the app, keep to your quiet hours, and each person turns them on or off in Account → Notifications. They never go to your page's public email address or phone. See the Workspace app.
The Agoo Reviews App
Agoo Reviews also comes as its own app, for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets, free, with no ads and nothing to buy inside it:
- For everyone. Discover, search, categories, a business's page with its score, its summary and its reviews, a single review and a reviewer's profile, all without an account. Signing in is by a code to an email address or a mobile number, or with Continue with Google, Continue with Microsoft or Sign in with Apple (on iPhone and iPad, Apple's own button), with no password, and the app asks only when it's needed: to write, save or follow a place, say a review was useful, or report a profile. A review being written is kept on the phone if the network drops.
- Your account. Your reviews in every state with why one waits or was removed, saved and followed places, messages from businesses, notifications (which ones come to the phone, and the emails), the people you blocked, downloading your data, signing out here or everywhere, and deleting your account.
- Report and block. Report a review, a reply, a page or a reviewer's profile to Agoo's moderators, and block a reviewer so their reviews and profile stay out of your view. They aren't told, and blocking changes nothing about a review or a score.
- Search that works as you type. The search field is always at the top of the Search tab (Discover's search bar opens it ready to type). Before you type: your recent searches on this phone (remove one, or all), popular categories, towns and featured places. As you type: businesses with their logos and how many branches they have, single branches with their town, categories and towns, with the letters you typed in bold; Search for … (or the keyboard's search key) shows every match, which you can narrow by category, town or Has reviews and put in the order you choose. When nothing matches, the app says so plainly and offers to add a missing business.
- Light or dark, your choice. The app opens in light. Under You → Appearance choose Dark, or Phone to follow your phone's own setting. agoo.reviews opens in light too, with its own switch.
- Notifications when a business replies to your review, answers your question or messages you, and when a place you follow gets a review, if you allow them. Straight after you sign in, the app shows what they look like (with a new review of your page, if you manage one) and asks; Not now shows what you'd miss and asks again in two weeks, and while they're off a Notifications are off banner on You, Activity and Messages leads to your phone's settings.
- Business. Whoever manages a page on agoo.reviews (its owner, managers and responders) gets a Business tab: their pages, each one's score and what waits for a reply, and Reply and Flag for a moderator under the same rules as the business area, with a notification for each new review. A page you applied to list shows Not public yet with where its application stands, and a claim that waits for a person is listed until it's decided. In the app you can also claim a page or list your business with every way to prove it, work through Get Your Page Ready, keep Your Page's logo, cover, facts, hours, holiday hours, buttons and practical facts right, edit What We Offer, run your Team and your alerts, print, save or share the QR Poster, make review images and copy the badge and widget code, invite customers from your contacts, verify Official Numbers and see what Your Level includes. Branches, payments, developers and choosing a level stay in the business area on the web; nothing is sold in the app.
Signing in with Google, Microsoft or Apple
The first time, an account is made from the address Google, Microsoft or Apple confirms (Apple's Hide My Email address works too, and stays private). If you already have an Agoo Reviews account with that address, we don't join them on our own: sign in with your code, then add Google, Microsoft or Apple on agoo.reviews under Account → Ways to sign in, and it signs you in from then on. Deleting your account also ends Agoo's access at Apple.
